Historical Event on 8/15/1947

The Defence department becomes the Ministry of Defence under a Cabinet Minister. Each service was placed under its own Commander-in-Chief. Under the Constitution, the supreme command of the Armed Forces was vested with the President.

6/23/1757The Battle of Plassey started between Robert Clive, incharge of British army, and Nawab of Bengal, Siraj -Ud -Daula. In this battle Robert Clive won control of Bengal.
8/3/1994The first successful heart transplant operation was performed at the All India Institute of Medical Science, New Delhi, by a team of doctors led by Prof. P. Venugopal (25-2-96).

12/7/1995Indian National Satellite (INSAT-2C), third indigenous satellite in the INSAT-2 series, launched. This has additional capabilities such as mobile satellite service, business communication and television outreach beyond Indian boundaries. This is still in service. It was launched by Ariane launch vehicle at French Guyana.
