11/1/1936Dr. Adarsh Sein Anand, justice, was born at Jammu (J & K State). He was the Chief Justice of India from 10/10/1998.
1/28/1846British forcibly separate Kashmir from the Sikhs and sell it to the Maharaja of Jammu for 1,000,000 pounds after the Battle of Allwal.
7/22/1998Sahib Singh Verma, Delhi Chief Minister, and BJP vice-president K. L. Sharma are fined Rs. 100 each for riding a motorcycle without helmet in New Delhi.
10/30/1947The first Spitfires from the Advanced Flying School at Ambala reached Srinagar and were soon engaged in strafing the raiders beyond Pattan. Within a week, the Tempests of No. 7 Squadron were playing a decisive role in the battle of Shelatang which halted the forward momentum of the insurgents.
6/7/1984Indian Army troops, sent to Punjab to quell Sikh violence, stormed the Golden Temple in Amritsar, the holiest of Sikh shrines. More than 400 persons were reported killed in the assault at the shrine, including Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.
