New Delhi, July 4 (IANS) Two women were hit by speeding cars in two separate accidents in East Delhi on Friday evening.

In the first accident, a Delhi Police sub-inspector posted with the PCR unit hit by his car a 60-year-old woman and dragged her to some distance in Ghazipur of East Delhi around 6.30 p.m. on Friday.

The woman is being treated at a hospital.

According to the police, the cop, identified as Yogendra, 56, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of accident. He has been arrested.

In the second accident, around 8 p.m. on Friday, a businessman ran over a 50-year-old woman in Chilla village, Mayur Vihar, of East Delhi.

The video footage of the accident, captured by CCTV camera, shows the woman falling off the bonnet of the car after being knocked down. A man can be seen signalling the driver to stop, while the passers-by helped the woman.

The accused, identified as Bhanu, also tried to run over another passer-by, when he made an attempt to stop him. He has been arrested.

"The woman has been discharged from the hospital after treatment," DCP East Jasmeet Singh said.
