Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 1 (IANS) The special investigation team of the Kerala Police on Saturday filed a chargesheet against IAS officer Sreeram Venkitaraman in the road accident case that killed a journalist K.M. Basheer in August last year.

The chargesheet contained 66 pages and 100 witnesses and 75 evidences.

The police chargesheet was filed at the Thiruvananthapuram chief judicial first class magistrate court which says he was drunk and was at the wheels at the time of the accident.

He was named as first accused and his fellow traveller and friend Wafa Firoz, who owns the car, has been named the second accused.

Basheer, the Thiruvananthapuram bureau chief of Siraj daily was killed after being hit by Venkitaraman's speeding.

The IAS officer was returning from a late-night party with his friend Waha Firoz when the accident took place.

It is alleged that the police after coming to know that the accused was an IAS officer, delayed even the mandatory medical tests in case of a road accident.

The IAS officer's suspension was extended, early this week for another three months.
