Los Angeles, May 16 (IANS) Filmmaker James Gunn says he loves "Brightburn" as it offers a new take on the superhero genre. "I love this movie because it is an entirely new take on the superhero genre," Gunn said in a statement.
Gunn has backed "Brightburn" with his production company Troll Court Entertainment. Sony Pictures Entertainment India will release the film in the country on May 24.
"It is something we have never seen before. It's a superhero movie with a horror angle. It's also a honest way of coming at the superhero myth because there's something terrifying about the idea of a super-powered alien that would come to Earth." Gunn said.
"Tori thinks her son is going to bring glory to the world and help us, but that's not necessarily the case. In every way we watch this movie, he is a ghost, he is a demon child, and we treated the movie exactly like that," the filmmaker said.
"Brightburn" offers a horror twist on the superhero genre. It stars Elizabeth Banks (Tori Breyer) and David Denman (Kyle Breyer), who play a couple raising an extra-terrestrial child Jackson A. Dunn (Brandon Breyer/Brightburn) who doesn't harbour love for the human race.
The film is directed by David Yarovesky and written by Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn.
