Tikrit (Iraq), Jan 8 (IANS) At least two security members were killed and six others were wounded on Tuesday in a suicide car bomb attack in Iraq's Tikrit city, officials said.

Khalid Mohmoud from Salahudin provincial Health Department confirmed the toll to Xinhua news agency.

Earlier, Mohammed al-Bazi from the provincial police said that a booby-trapped car went off in the afternoon at a security checkpoint at the northern entrance of Tikrit, some 170 km north of Iraq's capital Baghdad.

The incident occurred during a search of the car at the checkpoint, he said.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Islamic State militant group, in most cases, are responsible for such suicide attacks targeting Iraqi security forces and areas where crowds of people gather, including markets, cafes and mosques across the country.
