Historical Event on 10/22/1947

There were bound to be difficulties in consolidating the loosely federated Indian provinces, princely states, etc. into one homogeneous whole state. Kashmir, after initial dithering, acceded to India voluntarily and by popular consent, then, was invaded by Pakistani tribesmen with the support of the Pakistani government.

11/17/1932The Third Round Table Conference began in London. It was not attended by the Congress as the real Indian participation in the making of the constitution was negligible. Since Gandhi was in prison because of his civil disobedience movement he could not attend it either. This conference ended on 24th November 1932 without achieving anything.

3/18/1948Eknath Dhondu Solkar, cricketer (India 1969-77, brilliant short-leg fielder), was born in Bombay. He is recipient of Arjun Award (1973).
5/18/1974Jayaprakash Narayan led a procession against economic conditions in Patna. There was lathi charged and he issued a call for total revolution. He also started the 'Citizens for Democracy' movement.
