Historical Event on 8/15/1854

The first train of the East Indian Railways steamed out of Howrah station destined for Hoogly, which was at a distance of 24 miles. It was the first passenger train catering to public traffic. Officially, it was inaugurated in 1855.

5/15/1989NAL's 0.6 m transonic wind tunnel is commissioned. Total project cost is about Rs 20 million.
3/6/1915Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore met for the first time at Shantiniketan.
11/17/1932The Third Round Table Conference began in London. It was not attended by the Congress as the real Indian participation in the making of the constitution was negligible. Since Gandhi was in prison because of his civil disobedience movement he could not attend it either. This conference ended on 24th November 1932 without achieving anything.
12/29/1965First Indian-made tank 'Vijayanta' rolled off the Avadi Heavy Vehicles factory.
7/10/1992SROSS-C placed in orbit. Indian National Satellite (INSAT-2A), first indigenously-built satellite of second-generation INSAT series launched from Kourore. This is more operational multi-purpose communication and enhanced meteorology satellite. It is still in service.
2/8/1993India and Spain sign four agreements as the Spanish PM, Felipe Gonzalez, began a two-day visit to New Delhi.
