Kripa Upadhyay is the founder and Managing Partner at Orbit Law, PLLC, a Seattle, WA based firm that specializes in all areas of Immigration and Nationality Law.
A first generation Immigrant from Nepal, Kripa's practice has focused on helping Immigrants find their way to the US either via family based Immigration, or via employment as talented employees with various U.S. based companies in Puget Sound and around the U.S. She also represents applicants seeking Humanitarian relief (Asylum and its related forms of reliefs) on a Pro-Bono (free) basis.
Immigration is personal to her and to the firm. Both Partners at the firm are Immigrants and all other staff are either themselves Immigrants or children of 1st generation Immigrants; therefore, as individuals who have themselves been through the immigration process, they identify with the fears, anxiety, and hopes that accompany the immigrant experience, and are deeply committed to helping immigrants in the United States.
Kripa has been actively involved with the larger Immigrant communities in Seattle ever since she was a law student at Seattle University School of Law. She has worked closely and continues to support several non-profit/community based organizations in the Seattle area, and was awarded the Washington State Bar Association's Community Service Award in 2011. This is an annual award that is awarded to just one lawyer from the entire membership of the Washington State Bar Association in recognition of his/her exemplary work in the interest of the Community.
Kripa is actively involved with the growing StartUp community in trying to help them grow and thrive as entrepreneurs. She serves as a Charter Member at The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) and in 2016 Designed and Developed a four part session for TiE members entitled Building a Business: An Entrepreneur's Toolbox these sessions helped entrepreneurs gain valuable access to Lawyers; Technology Mentors; Marketing Professionals, Angel Investors; Venture Capitalists and others that they can learn from. In addition to serving as a Charter Member for TiE Seattle, she now also serves a s Co-Chair of TiE's StartUp on Tap, a monthly session where a featured speakers is invited to impart lessons to entrepreneurs that also allows entrepreneurs to mingle and network with each other.
Kripa previously served on the Board of the South Asian Bar Association of Washington (SABAW) and has continued to support SABAWA's work in the community by donating to their cause every year. She is also a volunteer Immigration Attorney at the SABAW sponsored Community Clinics.
Kripa and the firm take Community Service seriously and devote several hundred hours annually to representing applicants seeking Asylum & U-Visa (Victims of Crimes) free of cost.
While Community Service and Involvement in the Communities in which they live and work is important, Being the best legal advocates for the cases that clients trust her and the firm with are also of utmost importance to Kripa.
Kripa has been recognized as a leading Immigration Law expert. A regularly featured speaker at Immigration Lawyers Conferences, she has been named a Rising Star for Immigration Law for three years in a row (2014-2016) by Super Lawyer Magazine; The Rising Star designation is awarded by Super Lawyers to attorneys in recognition of their demonstrated excellence in the practice of Law and is restricted to no more than 2.5% of attorneys within the State.
Kripa's firm, Orbit Law, PLLC was recently named one the 20 best Immigration Law Firms in Seattle, WA by Expertise.com, an independent third party site that developed their own metrics for ranking lawyers and law firms, and Kripa has a 10/10 rating by AVVO, another independent attorney ranking service.
